Accredited Independent Parenting Educator/Coach

There is recognition that some parents who have received one notification for concern about the maltreatment of their child go on to receive further notifications. Receipt of one notification is an opportunity to provide an early intervention therapy for a vulnerable family to prevent further maltreatment of children. Different views have been expressed about how to deliver early intervention therapy. One option is to develop a new profession of an accredited parenting coach/educator who works in a family home and who has the skills to join in addressing common needs of vulnerable families. This chapter proposes skills that are required of a parenting educator/coach. The chapter draws attention to structured assessment instruments/tools that could be used by parenting educators/coaches.
