Novel Composite Ceramic Membranes in Bioelectrochemical Systems for Distillery Wastewater

Ceramic membranes have been proven to be successful for wastewater treatment due to their resistance to fouling, chemical stability, and high permeability, however still have limited large-scale application due to high capital costs. Recent progress has been made in the development of low-cost and composite membrane alternatives, valuables recovery, new eutectic solvents for compound extraction, and coupled technologies for offering sustainable wastewater treatment solutions. The current book chapter deals with the potential implementation of such low-cost composite membrane options in bio-electrochemical systems (BESs) for resource recovery and emerging contaminants removal from distillery wastewater.
