Principles, Characteristics, and Applications of Electrochemical Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

This chapter describes the principles and characteristics of electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (EC-SERS), a spectroelectrochemical technique that combines the advantages of SERS and electrochemistry for routine analysis at the electrified interface. This chapter seeks to introduce the technique while highlighting the multitude of applications that have been explored to date. A theoretical basis of the technique is provided along with important limitations. Nanostructured electrodes for EC-SERS applications are also described.
