Modelling and Prediction of Path Loss in Earth-space Link Using Multiple Linear Regression Model in Abuja, North Central of Nigeria, at Ku-band

In this work, the accuracy of prediction of path loss using statistical (multiple linear regression, (MLR)) model in Abuja at Ku-band was investigated. The work aimed at modelling and predicting path loss in comparison with the empirical (free-space path loss) model in Abuja at Ku-band due to the fact that the empirical models are not accurate for prediction outside the region where they are developed. Eight (2014–2021) years’ datasets were retrieved from the archived of the global precipitation measuring mission (GPM). The parameters obtained and used for the MLR modelling include: radar power, transmitted antenna gain, received antenna gain, and received power. From the results of the regression analysis, the obtained regression equation is given below with an accuracy of performance of 99.99%. The empirical free-space path loss model was analysed, computed, and compared with predicted path loss using the MLR developed model shown below. The results obtained showed that the statistical MLR model gives a high degree (99.99%) correlation with the estimated free-space path loss model. Thus, the statistical MLR model is most suitable and appropriate to be deployed for Abuja at Ku-band for effective transmission and reception of wireless communication signal.
