A Malmquist Index for Measuring Productivity and Efficiency of ICTs on Literacy Rate Versus Life Expectancy

摘要

The research examines whether there is a noticeable trend towards increasing Information Communication Technologies and internet access in improving the efficiency of Sub-Saharan African countries literacy rate and life expectancy. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to examine the relationship between ICTs and internet access in relation to life expectancy and literacy rate. To determine efficiency and productivity for each Sub-Saharan African countries, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Malmquist Index (MI) was used. The United Nations Data Bank was used to extract raw data ranging from 2010 to 2023 period. The results indicated that there is a significant relationship between ICTs and internet access to the lifespan of Sub-Saharan African countries. The summarized outcomes indicated that more research need to be conducted to create polices and frameworks to ensure that access to ICTs and internet is possible and that African countries can be on par with one another in terms of sustainable development.
