IoT and the Role of Wireless Networks
摘要
Wireless communication technologies are proving to be the bedrock and stepping stone on which the Internet of Things is establishing itself in the technological space. Wireless technologies provide seamless connectivity to an enormous number of IoT devices. This paper intends to discuss some key wireless technologies at the forefront of implementing IoT ecosystems. These technologies boast features that make them attractive to the IoT landscape, such as range of connectivity, data transfer rates, power consumption, and cost-effective implementation. These technologies range from the more prominent likes of Wi-Fi and certain variants of Bluetooth to the more IoT bespoke technologies such as LoRaWAN and Nb-IoT, which have much to offer in the specific use cases in which they are deployed. A solid comprehension of these wireless technologies and their underlying intricacies is paramount to harnessing the full potential of the wireless technologies in whatever IoT landscape they are deployed in, emphasising secure use.
