Machine Learning Approach to Password Strength Analysis: A Comparative Analysis

Passwords have become a crucial aspect of day to day activity of all users. Despite the existence of alternative forms of access control, passwords remain the most widely used form of authentication. This is due to their simplicity and ease of use. However, this simplicity also makes passwords vulnerable to attacks. With the growth of Artificial Intelligence, passwords become more vulnerable everyday. Thus, it is imperative for individuals and organizations to be vigilant in creating and utilizing strong passwords. This work aims to propose a Supervised Machine Learning Approach to evaluate the strength of a password. The same can be applied as a measure during password creation to alert the user regarding their password’s strength. Here, a GUI dashboard is also proposed for password strength analysis for a user to evaluate their password strength before using that password. The results show significant capability of Machine Learning approaches in password strength analysis.
