Selection of Aircraft with a Multimethodological Focus: a Combined Use of the Problem Structuring Method Strategic Choice Approach (SCA) and the Multicriteria Method MPSI-MARA

In recent years, the Brazilian Navy (MB, in Portuguese) has incorporated large ships into its fleet, such as the Bahia Multipurpose Dock Ship (MDS) and the Atlantico Multipurpose Aerodrome Ship (MAS). These ships allow the naval force to operate with various types of vehicles, but especially aircraft. However, there is a gap in MB’s capacity in terms of its ability to operate with heavy and/or large helicopters. Thus, it is proposed in this work, through a multimethodological approach, the structuring of the problem through the first two steps of the Strategic Choice Approach (SCA) method, for later evaluation and ordering of the alternatives with the MPSI-MARA multicriteria method. With this, we seek to validate the framework, so that it can be used for other decision-making processes, not only in MB, but in any other areas.
