Blade Parameter Optimization in Pump as Turbine (PAT)
摘要
Pump As Turbine (PAT) is a technological innovation that is economical, environmentally friendly, and sustainable in terms of energy recovery and integration with renewable energy sources, similar to the small and medium-sized hydropower plants. The blade parameters like thickness, wrap angle, and profile are modified to maximize the PAT’s performance. Optimizing the wrap angle with blade thickness can help boost the performance. The PAT operating in turbine mode was examined at the wrap angles of 85°, 95°, 100°, 120°, and 125°. There is an improvement in the torque with the wrap angle as the flow channel widens. A 120° wrap angle results in an efficiency of 89.55%. Choosing a wrap angle of 100° and increasing the blade thickness improve the efficiency from 85.26% to 87.26%. However, retaining the same wrap angle of 100° and blade thickness but changing the PAT impeller blade’s profile would improve the efficiency from 85.36% to 85.50%.
