School Support-Based Family Education Policy Development in China

This chapter explores school support-based family education policy development in China. Education is an integral systematic project. Family education, school education and social education constitute the three pillars of the national education system. As the starting point and cornerstone of education, family education plays an important role in family happiness, national development and progress, and social harmony. On 23 October 2021, the 13th at the 31st session of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passed the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Family Education Promotion Act, which came into force on January 1, 2022. This is China’s first specialized legislation about family education, which embodies the CPC and the country’s emphasis on family education, cares for the healthy growth of the young generation. The scientific plan for the long-term development of the country is a law enacted in order to carry forward the fine tradition of the Chinese nation of attaching importance to family education, guide the whole society to pay attention to the family, family education and family traditions, promote family happiness and social harmony, and train socialist builders and successors who are morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically and working in an all-round way. The Family Education Promotion Law consists of six chapters, which clarifies the purpose and significance of family education, and illustrates the responsibilities that families, schools, society and the state should bear in the area. It is highly instructive, practical and scientific. Meanwhile it states that “the State and society shall provide guidance, support and services for family education”.
