Net Zero Policies and Climate Resilience: A Focus on Emerging Technologies and Implementation Strategies in the Middle East

The Middle East is working on achieving their net zero goals and enhancing climate resilience in the region. However, they are facing several challenges and opportunities. The region’s major characteristic is its fossil fuel dependency and extreme climatic conditions. However, are turning into emerging technologies and innovative implementation strategies that are supporting environmental goals. This chapter focuses on the interdependency of net zero policies and climate resilience in the Middle East with particular emphasis on emerging technologies such as renewable energyRenewable energy sources, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and smart grid systems. The chapter further examines how the emerging technologies can be effectively implemented to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and encourage climate resilience. One of the main aims of the chapter is to highlight the net zero initiatives of countries such as United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, who are investing heavily solar and wind energy projects, as well as pioneering CCS technologies. Furthermore, the chapter focuses on the importance of regional cooperation and international partnerships that are driving technological adoption and infrastructure development. The analysis further evaluates policy frameworks that support the transition to net zero, including renewable energy investments regulatory reforms, and public–private partnerships (PPP).
