Information Consumption Patterns, Fake News, and Deep Fake
摘要
The rise of digital platforms and social media has democratised the generation and flow of information, allowing for unprecedented access to information, news, and other types of content. However, it has also created an environment where misinformation can spread rapidly and deceive large audiences. This chapter discusses the characteristics of fake news, including its intentional dissemination, misleading narratives, and potential to manipulate public opinion. The chapter explores the impact of fake news and deep fakes on democratic processes, public discourse, and social cohesion. It discusses the challenges of identifying and combating misinformation, the role of social media platforms in content moderation, and the need for collaborative efforts between technology companies, policymakers, and civil society to address these issues. This chapter emphasises the importance of critical thinking, media literacy, and collaborative efforts in addressing these challenges. By promoting responsible information consumption and developing effective strategies to combat misinformation, societies can safeguard the integrity of public discourse, democratic processes, and the trustworthiness of information sources.
