Blood Components and Their Contents
摘要
Blood, a vital fluid in human physiology, comprises four main components: red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), plasma, and platelets, each playing a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis and health. This chapter delves into the separation, preparation, and therapeutic applications of these components, focusing on packed red blood cells (PRBCs), platelet concentrates, fresh frozen plasma (FFP), and cryoprecipitate. Through centrifugation and apheresis, these components are harvested for their unique contributions to treating various conditions, from anemia and coagulopathies to immune deficiencies. The chapter underscores the stringent guidelines for donor selection, component preparation, and quality control, ensuring the safety and efficacy of blood transfusions. While plasma fractionation products are beyond this discussion, the chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the general principles of blood component preparation, storage, indications for transfusion, and the clinical relevance of each component in transfusion medicine.
