The theory that the thick cogged threads penetrating the loose fat tissue under the skin make the tissue firmer by giving mechanical stimuli to the tissue through signaling is well explained in Mechanical signaling through connective tissue: A mechanism of therapeutic effect of acupuncture by Dr. Langevin HM, a study that established academic theories on the effects of acupuncture. Usually, stimulating underlying soft tissue by using techniques of rotating or winding up the needle when acupuncturing may not only relieve the pain by tissue remodeling through the mechanotransduction pathway but also contract the skin and soft tissue of the treated site, improving the quality of the skin and firming the tissues. Assuming that these effects can be reproduced with thin absorbable threads instead of needles, it could be seen that embedding therapy, using chromic catgut, which was initially performed at the oriental medicine, has provided the basis for the absorbable monofilament thread lifting (Fig. 5.1).
