Improving THz Antenna for 6G Wireless Communication Using a Symmetrical SIW Structure

Six Generation (6G), the next-generation wireless communication system, is expected to support massive data traffic to cope with the proliferation of wirelessly connected devices. Terahertz (THz) band is expected to be used in 6G communication to achieve broad bandwidth which ultimately increases the data rates. In this paper, we propose a symmetrical structure of Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) as a simple and efficient method for improving bandwidth and directing self-currents (EMs) of the THz antenna. With only one of the 6G antenna elements, the simulated bandwidth is 22.96 GHz, from 122.33 GHz to 145.29 GHz at −10 dB. Based on RT5880, the radiation efficiency and gain of the proposed antenna are over 99% and nearly 7 dBi, respectively.
