Landslide Mitigation Using Different Slope Stability Techniques - A Review

摘要

Nowadays landslides are frequent phenomena that are often heard and such events become catastrophic during monsoon season. Although many factors are accountable, continuous downpours and earthquakes are the most dominant. Research and modern tools & technology have made it possible to enhance slope stability using different techniques. However, opting for a technique for enhancing the stability of slopes depends upon the static and dynamic character of the material of the slopes, hydrological and topographical conditions, and cost-effectiveness. Many researchers have given different soil slope stabilization techniques depending on site conditions. This paper reviews different available techniques based on the properties to improve slope stability under different conditions. The result of the study shows different techniques could be adopted for different site conditions. For slopes made up of sandy soils, geotextile-encased stone columns and concrete piles are most appropriate to improve their stability. Cement grouting techniques were found to be significantly effective in reducing the swelling potential and improving the compressive strength of slopes made up of expansive soils. Concrete canvas slope protection incorporated with aramid fibre reinforced sheet (AFRP) was found to be effective in emergency and complex geological conditions because of high tensile strength and low permeability. Geosynthetic reinforcement is found to be most effective in reducing settlement and deformation significantly for slopes made up of soft clays. Soil nailing technique improves the overall factor of safety against seismic excitation and reduces deformation. Nailing angles, nail length, and nail spacing play a crucial part in maintaining the stability of soil slope.
