Landslide Risk and Vulnerability Assessment in Western Ghats with Special Reference to Satara and Raigad District: An Overview of Recent Developments

摘要

Landslides are large-scale, gravity-driven deposits of rock, debris, or soil down a slope. Vulnerability relates to how catastrophes affect the socioeconomic well-being of individuals residing in the region, whereas risk is the anticipated level of damage from landslides. Given their increased susceptibility, landslides are among the worst natural disasters. In India, landslides are rather common in the Himalayan region and some areas of the Western Ghats, making them extremely dangerous. Maharashtra’s Satara and Raigad district has more areas susceptible to landslides than any other. The growth of the region is quite risky in this district since the majority of the communities are hotspots prone to landslides. For landslide-prone regions to be mitigated, risk and vulnerability assessments are essential. With regard to land-slides and their risk and vulnerability assessment in the Western Ghats area, this study seeks to present an overview of prior studies. In particular, it intends to help other academics gain a better understanding of the current state of landslide-prone places from a risk and vulnerability viewpoint, as well as how to assess and mitigate hazards using a variety of techniques.
