How to optimize the income distributionincome distribution and its related mechanisms in China is a major practical issue in promoting the modernization of the national governance system and governance capacity during the economic and social transformation. This chapter examines the basic pattern and key issues of income distribution in modern China, then explains the specific challenges faced in cultivating and growing the middle classmiddle class and goes on to discuss three socially topical cases related to income distributionincome distribution.
