Introducing the Multigenerational Workforce and Workplace

In workplaces around Australia and internationally, employers are facing the complexities of managing older workersOlder worker with little guidance to follow. While there is growing discussion about the ageingAgeing and increasingly ‘multigenerational’ workforce in the human resourcesResource field, this increased interest has failed to translate into better working lives for older people. This book fills this gap by helping researchers and practitioners to understand opportunities for reaping the benefits of a multigenerational workforce and managing its challenges. Importantly, this book is the first of its kind to provide these insights alongside an understanding of how genderGender and unpaid caring affects the workforce. The book is based on a large seven-year study on what makes a workplace positive for an age-diverse workforce and draws on real-world examples from six organisations. In this first chapter, we explain the demographic shifts that are occurring in workplaces and outline how this book will provide practical advice to manage the workforce of the future.
