Productivity Improvement on Fabrication Line of Baler at Chni, Pune

摘要

Productivity as a vital metric serves as a benchmark for enhancing product quality. The core focus of this research endeavor revolves around the minimization or eradication of Non-Value Added Activities (NVAA) within the process of fabricating a Baler. The study presented herein is a comprehensive analysis conducted at CNHi (Case New Holland Industrials), a multinational manufacturing facility situated in Pune, Maharashtra. In-depth scrutiny of the baler fabrication line unveiled pronounced inefficiencies within the fabrication area. Consequently, the Baler Section was chosen for a meticulous work study. Operators in the fabrication area were found to engage in numerous Non-Value Added Activities (NVAA) and Semi-Value Added Activities (SVAA). The prevalent wasteful activities primarily encompassed Unnecessary Motion, measurements, Poor Tool and Equipment Usage, and item retrieval, as discerned through meticulous time and waste observations. In response, strategic alterations were implemented within the shop floor layout and the arrangement of workstations (Fixtures). These modifications were devised to curtail the operator’s need for movement and item retrieval, thereby streamlining the operational process. The enhancement of productivity, we inherently touch upon the pivotal concepts of Mechanisms, Design, Automation, Efficiency, Optimization, Manufacturing, Quality, and Workflow. Furthermore, the concrete results of our interventions reach into manufacturing processes, systematically reducing wasteful activities and elevating the standards of quality. The research demonstrates the manner in which streamlined processes enhance both productivity and product quality, bridging the gap between theoretical principles and their real-world implementation to herald a more effective and efficient industrial era.
