Optimization of Biodiesel Synthesis Parameters of Waste Cooking Oil Through Response Surface Methodology

The research aims to address the rising cost of crude oil and concerns about exhaust emissions by focusing on the production of biomass blended fuel. The fuel is designed to have combustion properties similar to diesel, meeting energy demands while simultaneously reducing exhaust emissions. In this study, waste cooking oil (WCO) is transesterified to produce biofuel using response surface methodology (RSM). The Box-Behnken design is used to investigate the effects of primary operating factors such as methanol, catalyst concentration, and reaction time on biodiesel production. According to the ANOVA results, the most important factor among the other characteristics studied is catalyst concentration. The maximum biodiesel yield under ideal conditions is 98.75 wt%.
