What Are the Policy Implications of SEPs? Lessons Learned from the Governance of Hellobike in China

 This paper explores the policy implications of Sharing Economy Platforms (SEPs), using the governance of Hellobike in China as a case study. Since its inception in 1978, the sharing economy has rapidly evolved alongside technological advancements, disrupting traditional industries and spurring innovation. The governance of SEPs in China, as demonstrated by Hellobike, includes monitoring, regulation, and process management. The Chinese government’s initiatives aim to ensure orderly urban traffic, safeguard data security, and promote public participation. Hellobike’s growth strategy, which emphasizes expansion into second-tier cities and technological partnerships, illustrates adaptation in a dynamic market. This study underscores the critical role of government in balancing innovation with regulation, thereby enabling SEPs to contribute to economic development and societal progress.
