Ethical Issues When Treating Anxious Children Whose Parents Have Separated

A series of dilemmas arise when a therapist is referred to a child whose parents have separated, and the child is anxious and is reluctant to visit one parent. This chapter discusses ethical issues that commonly arise in this context, and makes recommendations about how therapists can ethically manage the dilemmas that arise. The chapter includes recommendations for good practice on selected topics. The chapter includes a handout concerning confidentiality and related topics when a clinician provides therapy for a child.
