Russia–Japan Relations After Abe: A New Stress Test?

The chapter addresses the qualitative changes in Russia-Japan relations that occurred after the resignation of Shinzo Abe from the position of Prime Minister after 2020 due to the transformation of international environment and domestic political developments in both countries. Among the international factors contributing to the deterioration of bilateral relations, the author mentions confrontation between Russia and the United States after the change of presidential administration in Washington in 2021 and aggravation of the situation around Ukraine after 2022.
