Social Justice Rules in Social Stratification

  • Zhongmin Wu

摘要

The basic rules of social justice in social strata should include mutual opening and equal access. This means that individuals with certain abilities should have the opportunity to obtain the corresponding social position as they wish. No class, especially a class with a higher social position, should artificially set up obstacles for any reason to exclude members of other classes from entering this class so as to safeguard their unique interests. All classes should receive differential and appropriate rewards, maintaining reciprocity and mutuality among all social strata. The interests of the higher strata cannot be improved at the expense of the interests of the lower strata; instead, improvements in the higher strata should also enhance the conditions of the lower strata. In real society, there are often many unfavorable factors for social justice rules in social stratification. These include misunderstandings about a meritocratic society, blurred boundaries between upper classes, imbalances between horizontal differentiation and vertical differentiation, and varying degrees of erosion of the integrity of individual members within different strata.
