Experimentation on Solar Water Heating Augmented Thermosiphon Evacuated Tube Solar Collector

Solar water heaters are environmentally friendly and require less maintenance. The operating cost of this unit is lower than other solar energy systems. The widespread use of solar water heating in India is in many different areas, especially in low-temperature applications in industry. Hot water is essential for hotels, restaurants, and other food businesses in India. For any application that uses electricity to generate heat energy, using a solar water heater can reduce electricity costs by 70–80%, and similarly for households by switching to solar water heating instead of a traditional water heater. Solar water heaters are expected to have the fastest payback period of 2–4 years, depending on usage and fuel charges. The thermosiphon concept was used to produce solar water. The plastic storage tanks for this project have a capacity of 90 L of copper pipe with a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 17 m. Solar collectors are mounted on frames inclined at 28 degrees. For the inlet temperature of 32.6 °C, outlet temperature of 45.1 °C, and solar irradiation of 902 W/m2, the maximum efficiency of the system comes out to be 34%. That amount of water is sufficient for 2–3 persons for daily usage.
