Cottonseed Biodiesel and Butanol Blends as a Fuel for Diesel Engine

Air pollution is a pressing concern in the twenty-first century, primarily caused by fossil fuel emissions from vehicle engines. These emissions release harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and particulate matter, posing significant environmental and health risks. Moreover, the increasing demand for petrol and diesel fuels leads to rising prices and impending depletion. To address this energy crisis, researchers are exploring alternative fuels. A recent study focuses on blending diesel with cottonseed oil and butanol as an additive, aiming to develop a more environmentally friendly fuel option. The study examines various blend percentages (CSBD10, CSBD20, CSBD30, CSBD40) and evaluates their impact on thermal efficiency (BTE), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) along with emission levels (NOx, CO, HC, CO2) under different loads. The findings indicate that these blends enhance performance and reduce emissions, promoting cottonseed biodiesel as a more efficient energy source. Compared to pure diesel, all blends show lower emission levels, with B30 achieving significant reductions of 33% in HC emissions, 35% in NOx emissions, and 33% in CO emissions. This study underscores the potential of blending cottonseed oil with diesel as a promising solution to improve energy efficiency and mitigate harmful emissions for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
