Prostate is a part of male reproductive system that serves dual functions, both as an unpaired accessory gland as well as a muscular mechanical switch between urination and ejaculation. Its glandular function includes production of fluid (containing glycoprotein, prostate specific antigen) that forms part of semen that help neutralize the acidity of the vaginal tract prolonging lifespan of the sperm.
