Treatment options for an early stage, very low risk and low risk carcinoma prostae for a person without a family history of prosttae cancer are watchful waiting with annual examination of serum PSA and magnetic resonance imaging. For intermediate risk disease and low risk disease, organ confined carcinoma with a family history of carcinoma prostate, outcomes with radical surgery or radical radiation are similar for over all survival and local control. For high risk and very high risk prostate cancer multi-modality treatment as per age appropriate criteria results in best long term outcomes.
