Technological Solutions for Dye Removal from the Natural Environment
摘要
Dyes are extensively used in various industries, including textile, paper, and leather, to enhance the appearance of products. However, the discharge of dye-containing effluents into water bodies poses significant environmental challenges due to their high color intensity and potential toxicity. Consequently, the development of effective and sustainable technological solutions for dye removal has become a critical area of research. Several innovative approaches, including adsorption, photocatalysis, membrane filtration, and advanced oxidation processes, have been investigated for their effectiveness in removing dyes from wastewater. Adsorption-based methods utilizing materials such as activated carbon, zeolites, and bioadsorbents have demonstrated promising results in dye removal, owing to their high surface area and adsorptive capacity. Photocatalytic degradation techniques, utilizing semiconductor-based catalysts like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, have gained attention due to their ability to degrade dyes under light irradiation, leading to complete mineralization. Membrane filtration, including processes like ultrafiltration and nanofiltration, effectively remove dyes by size exclusion and electrostatic interactions. The study highlights the growing emphasis on eco-friendly and cost-effective methods that minimize energy consumption and waste generation.
