Water and Energy Efficiency in Textile Production

The textile industry is characterized by its complex nature as a manufacturing sector that exhibits fragmentation and heterogeneity, primarily due to the prevalence of small and medium enterprises. Energy consumption is a significant determinant of costs within the textile industry. In periods characterized by significant fluctuations in energy prices, the enhancement of energy efficiency emerges as a paramount priority for textile manufacturing facilities. Again, certain industries are significant contributors to the release of a wide range of hazardous organic and inorganic substances, including toxic chemicals. Numerous global studies have identified a range of sustainable technologies that have been successfully implemented in the textiles, both in specific sectors and across different areas. However, there is a lack of comprehensive and easily accessible information pertaining to this emerging concern. Therefore, the purpose of this chapter is to serve as a comprehensive reference on these emerging issues for engineers, researchers, investors, textile manufacturers, policymakers, and other individuals with a vested interest.
