Left-Wing Fine Arts

  • Lü Peng

摘要

During the Kuomintang (KMT) dictatorship, progressive youth tended to rebel, and many young artists organized their own printmaking groups to attack reactionary forces and criticize the society through woodcuts. The CPC-led “the Left-Wing League of Artists” united printmakers and cartoonists to guide them through effective organization to carry out propaganda in the war against the Japanese and indictment of the Kuomintang regime. At the same time, artists in the KMT-controlled areas of China and those in CPC-controlled Yan’an maintained ideological and artistic influences and connections.
