Guohua Painters and New Guohua
摘要
In a historical period when the slogan of “total Westernization” was rampant, traditional painters did not abandon their principles. The artistic practices of important painters Huang Binhong, Qi Baishi, and Zhang Daqian are considered to exemplify the dynamic inheritance and development of traditional Chinese art. At the same time, the reinterpretation and use of traditional Chinese brush and ink by Gao Jianfu, Gao Qifeng, Chen Shuren, and other painters of the “New Guohua Painting” (Lingnan School) in Guangdong dramatically changed people’s understanding and perception of “calligraphy and painting,” “fine art,” and “art.”
