Art in the Period of Social Recovery and Construction

  • Lü Peng

摘要

After 1949, when the Communist Party seized state power, the new regime’s cultural authorities advocated the use of New Year’s posters to publicize the policies and guidelines of the Communist Party. Political movements in different periods also relied on fine arts for ideological propaganda, so that Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, comic strips, and other art forms were mobilized to depict the themes demanded by the new regime. At the same time, the official art institutions also launched the mass art movement of workers, peasants, and soldiers and enforced the main arguments in Mao Zedong’s Talks at the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art through various forms of art serving the workers, peasants, and soldiers.
