Mix Design of Early–Age Cementitious Treated Clay

The aim of this research is focusing on the proportioning materials to meet the design purpose of Cementitious Treated Base (CTB). The natural soil of soft clay are mixed with two different type of Portland Cement, followed by the addition of quicklime (CaO) to improve strength and soil properties. The soil is treated with variation of cement content [C] (OPC and PCC) and quick lime [L] associated with C12L0, C8L4, and C4L8, then remolded to ensure the maximum density. Next, the remolded treated soil is cured for 3 days (early-age of CTB). The effect of cementitious content on compressive strength of CTB were investigated using UCS tests to provide an indicative measure of the strength and strain, which express the binding from mix design. The result showed that CTB is an effective method for soil improvement as it enhance the strength and reduce the strain due to cements’ hydration to develop rigid bonds on the mixture. In this research, the cement content with highest compressive strength and lowest strain is C8L4, proposed as maximum mixing design of CTB. The long-term stabilization is required to achieve the purpose strength of CTB.
