Between any two points on the Earth's surface, a great circle route and a rhumb line route can be constructed. The great circle route is a planar curve formed by passing any two points and the earth’s center while cutting the earth’s surface. It has the largest radius of curvature, which is equal to the earth’s radius, and is the flattest curve between two points and the shortest distance.
