Climate Change and Herder-Farmer Conflicts in Nigeria: Issues and Challenges

In the past decades, the migration of the pastoralist Fulani within Nigeria has been fuelled by the challenges of climate change. The intensity of the climate has led to drought and desertification and this has left the pastoralists with no option than to migrate southwards. As they moved to the central and southern regions of the country, they had a series of clashes with the local communities while attempting to either settle or graze (Ekpo & Tobi, 2019). Between 2013 and 2014, the clashes became intense in the Middle Belt states of Benue, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau and Taraba.
