Arts of the Ming Dynasty

In the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 AD), China was getting closer to the end of its feudal society. During that period, China’s handicrafts and commerce were advanced, and capitalism emerged, with the area of cities and the urbanites expanding rapidly. Therefore, the taste of citizens had an important influence on the development of Chinese culture and art. The Ming Dynasty also promoted international exchanges: Emperor Yongle ordered Zheng He to make seven voyages of his Treasure Fleet around the Indian Ocean. At the same time, foreign missionaries were permitted to visit China. All these initiatives had strengthened the communication and mutual influence between Chinese culture and overseas cultures, as well as promoting great advances in science and technology. Overall, the civilization process of China during the Ming Dynasty was aligned with the world in all aspects.
