In April 907 AD, Zhu Huang, a general in Huang Chao Rebellion, ousted the last emperor of the Tang Dynasty and established the Later Liang Dynasty in central China. He made Dongjing (present-day Kaifeng, Henan Province) the capital. This marked the beginning of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms.
