Antibiotic resistance poses a formidable global health crisis and necessitates innovative strategies to preserve the efficacy of infection control. This chapter explores the transformative potential of advanced nonantibiotic therapies, such as phage therapy, probiotics, immunotherapy, and gene editing, as alternatives to traditional antibiotics. The primary objective of this study was to critically examine the role of nonantibiotic therapies in addressing antibiotic resistance. We aimed to elucidate the mechanisms and applications of each therapy, emphasizing its precision, targeted action, and potential synergy with conventional antibiotics. By outlining the objectives, we aim to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of infection control. The methodology involved a systematic review of the current literature, clinical trials, and emerging research in the field of advanced nonantibiotic therapies. Each therapy was meticulously analyzed, considering the mechanisms of action, applications, and challenges. We explored case studies and advancements to provide an up-to-date and nuanced perspective on the state of nonantibiotic therapies. Our findings underscore the potential impact of nonantibiotic therapies on combating antibiotic-resistant infections. Phage therapy exhibits remarkable specificity; probiotics restore microbial equilibrium; and advanced therapies, such as immunotherapy and gene editing, offer precision in modulating host responses. These results emphasize the potential synergy between these therapies and traditional antibiotics, presenting a multifaceted approach to infection control. In conclusion, advanced antibacterial therapies represent a paradigm shift in infection control. Precision-reduced antibiotic overuse and the potential for personalized interventions offer hope in the battle against antibiotic resistance. Although challenges exist, our exploration reveals the transformative potential of these therapies in shaping the future of infectious disease management.
