摘要

This chapter sought to identify risk factors associated with severity of COVID-19 among hospitalized patients. Severe disease is significantly associated with minority groups including non-nationals, patients presenting with complications such as Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, sepsis, high inflammatory markers, and patients requiring non-invasive mechanical ventilation and steroids, when adjusted for other factors (p < 0.05). Furthermore, using the logistic regression model, while adjusting for other factors, among hospitalized patients, patients with severe COVID-19 had over 3 times increased likelihood of receiving steroids (1.81–6.07, p < 0.001) compared to those with moderate COVID-19. Therefore, early detection of severity factors may improve the care of hospitalized COVID-19 patients.
