The Prospect of Human Capital Development in Post-pandemic

After gradually beginning to fade in 2022, the COVID-19 pandemic has left an unforgettable memory of lockdown, isolation, loss of job and income, illness, and death, a memory that is expected to last for generations. The detailed examination presented in literature indicates that the pandemic effects devastated the entire global healthcare system with subsequent impact of the global economy, where millions of people lost their jobs, main sources of income, and access to basic services, including education and healthcare provisions. The human and social impacts of the pandemic are greater in developing countries, where hundreds of millions of people are unable to cover the costs of online education and healthcare provisions and pushing many of them into poverty. The pandemic created an unstable equilibrium, where developed and developing countries alike experienced economic, social, food, energy, and health insecurity. In this context, this chapter explains the efforts made by national governments and international organizations to deal with the pandemic and speed up the process of recovery. The overarching focus is on summarizing the education and health recovery strategies and providing some recommendations for the prospect of human capital development in the post-pandemic era.
