Masked Face Recognition Using Deep Learning

The purpose of this review paper is to present a summary of the latest developments in masked face recognition, which is a crucial and urgent subject given the COVID-19 pandemic situation. With the sizable use of face masks, conventional face popularity systems are often rendered useless. Considering this paper will discuss various algorithms and techniques developed to address this problem such as deep learning models, visible facial features, combining visible and thermal images, using other biometric modalities, and fusion-based methods. All of which will be explored in this review paper. In addition, ethical concerns and limitations of all techniques will also be discussed. Ultimately the goal is to gain insight into ongoing research efforts in addressing the critical issue we’ve been presented with since the start of 2020.
