摘要

The conservation of biodiversity is greatly aided by sustainable land management (SLM) practices, particularly considering the ongoing loss of species and ecosystems and the escalating environmental problems. The functioning, resilience, and well-being of ecosystems, as well as human welfare, depend on biodiversity, which includes the variety of life forms, ecologies, and genetic diversity on Earth. However, anthropogenic pressures like deforestation, rapid urbanisation, unsustainable extraction of natural resources, expansion of roads, increased agricultural production, and pollution are responsible for the unprecedented loss of biodiversity. Hence, SLM techniques become an essential tool in this situation for reducing these adverse effects and preserving the diversity of life in the Himalayas. Agroforestry, organic farming, reforestation, and habitat restoration are a few examples of SLM techniques that support biodiversity conservation and can provide a higher quality ecosystem services in the Indian northwestern Himalayas. These techniques play a significant role in fostering ecological balance and preserving soil fertility, water supplies, and carbon sequestration. SLM ensures the provision of ecosystem services like clean water, pollination, and climate regulation. Furthermore, the adoption of these SLM techniques can also have long-term economic advantages for regional communities and can boost the local economy. In the era of land degradation, conservation of biodiversity depends critically on SLM techniques. This paper outlines how these practices address biodiversity loss by integrating ecological, economic, and social considerations. SLM practices are practical and efficient solutions to ensure peaceful coexistence between humans and nature as humanity struggles with the urgency of safeguarding biodiversity.
