The Beginning

In Bangladesh, disability is still a social stigma and People with Disabilities (PWDs) are subjected to discrimination. Women with disabilities are doubly discriminated due to impairment associated with gender identity. Again, socio-economic status is caused to be put into state of deeper deprivation. Rural area is more backward in term of stigma and negative perception on disability and gender identity. Such state of discrimination has impact over access to fundamental rights and basic services for PWDs. Studies on Global and Asian perspectives show that PWDs experience discrimination in accessibility to social security. Women with disabilities have to gone through more exclusion in accessibility to social security comparing to men with similar physical impairment. In such circumstances, this chapter makes an analysis on imperative behind introduction of social security for PWDs, international and national obligation for providing social security and current reform initiatives in Bangladesh. Moreover, this chapter has made discussion on some core concepts for getting clear understanding of the study. It has highlighted on research process have been applied to conduct the study. Again, justification for adopting certain research methodology, research framework, and research sites have been enlightened in this chapter.
