Female Blandy Flap Urethroplasty

One of the most common surgical methods for female urethral stricture is the Blandy flap urethroplasty. It is a relatively simple procedure with minimal morbidity and good surgical outcomes. The flap is located in a position that is familiar to most urologists [1]. It also allows concomitant anti-incontinence procedures, if required [2]. This is a proximally based ventral flap urethroplasty that is best for strictures that are 1 cm or less from the urethral meatus and that measure 1.5–2 cm long [2, 3]. In addition, this surgical approach should be avoided if there is lichen sclerosus, severe vaginal atrophy, or significant vaginal hiatal narrowing.
