Penile Prosthesis Insertion After Urethroplasty

Erectile dysfunction (ED) post pelvic fracture urethral injury (PFUI) represents a significant burden on patients’ quality of life. It is challenging to estimate the exact occurrence, as pre-injury ED is often poorly documented. It is estimated to affect up to 60% of patients post PFUI [1, 2]. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain this phenomenon, including traumatic neurogenic and vasculogenic insults [3]. A recent meta-analysis estimated that in patients suffering from ED post PFUI, 80% have organic ED, of which 43% is neurogenic, 30% is vasculogenic, and 27% is mixed neurogenic and vasculogenic [4].
