Predicting Pubectomy in PFUI Repair

Pelvic fractures are caused by high-energy trauma like motor vehicle accidents or falls from height and may result in urethral injury in 5–25% of the cases [1]. Most injuries occur at the bulbomembranous junction when the fixed posterior urethra gets disconnected from the mobile anterior urethra. Occasionally, the injury can occur at the prostatomembranous junction. In complete transection of the urethra, the peri-prostatic venous plexus can be injured leading to subsequent large haematoma formation with displacement of the prostate cephalad and posterior. A less common mechanism of injury involves direct injury to the urethra by a bony fragment, which is more commonly seen in female patients [2].
