Microbial Technology: A Green Path to Achieving Sustainable Development Goals

In January 2016, the United Nations formulated the 2030 sustainable development goals, which aim to advance environmental, social, and economic advancement through the implementation of environmentally friendly practices and greener industrial technology. The primary objective of these goals is to satisfy essential human necessities and desires, including but not limited to sustenance, hydration, clothing, shelter, and medical care. However, it is unfortunate that a significant portion of the population continues to encounter obstacles when attempting to obtain these essential elements. The depletion of natural resources and the escalating production of refuse underscore the imperative for a shift toward environmentally sustainable and sustainable industrial systems. The significance of microbial technology in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is analyzed in this article. Despite the fact that microorganisms are frequently linked to adverse consequences, such as their participation in the progression of diseases, this research underscores their advantageous functions. Microbial technology offers innovative approaches to address societal needs while mitigating ecological consequences. This chapter explores the vast array of potential uses of microbes and offers a thorough examination of methodologies for controlling and harnessing their capabilities in the pursuit of sustainable development. By utilizing microbiological science to ensure that the world’s population’s basic requirements are met, the SDGs pave the way for an ecologically sustainable and socially equitable future.
