Design, Synthesis, and Characterization of Some Oxadiazole Derivatives and Their S-Glucosides Bearing Thiazole Scaffold

In a search for novel anti-cancer and anti-malarial agents, a series of 5{[4-(substituted phenylthiazol-2-yl)]-thio methyl}-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiol (7a-j) and their S-glycosides (9a-j) were prepared to incorporate thiazole. S-glycosides, which serve as enzyme inhibitors, are crucial tools for determining specific protein-carbohydrate interactions and can greatly help structural and functional studies of carbohydrate-active enzymes. The compounds were synthesized and characterized by spectral (FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass) and elemental analysis. In the current work, an effort is made to cover the recently synthesized medicinally active molecules.
